Dev Lemons is giving us ‘Dizzy Vision’, and having fun doing it

Dev Lemons is an up and coming artist who is never going to be caught taking herself too seriously, yet early on in 2023 we are really starting to see her establish her musical palette as no joke. Lacking absolutely nothing in the confidence, charisma, and musical knowledge categories, it’s exciting to be along for the rise of her artistry coming to fruition. You may have discovered her from her popular YouTube channel SongPsych where she breaks down the music theory of popular songs that gained a following particularly around the pandemic, or the more recent Dev Limes page where she’s been on a hilarious quest for love. All the while, Dev’s been putting out her own music for a few years now. Sitting around 250,000 monthly listeners, she’s primed for a huge year in 2023 opening on tour for half•alive this spring and a steady stream of singles leading up to a new ep, not to mention her consistent presence on YouTube and twitch.

Her three most recent singles ‘Dizzy Vision,’ ‘Nightstand,’ and ‘You Tear Me Apart’ are some of her most personal songs to date and show her not shying away at all from her sonic creativity in the form of some powerful tracks. Dev knows how to use contrast in her music. She’ll take soft lines and pair them with heavy drums and reverb building to exciting climaxes only to be released into dissonant resolutions. When you listen to her music you can’t help but be on the edge of your seat which is why I am beyond excited to see her opening on tour for half•alive (See you in Minneapolis after the show, Dev?). Each song has been in constant rotation this spring and they’re sure to transfer to my summer playlists as well. You can check out her music in Garrett’s Finds on Spotify below and stay tuned for more song reviews here on the Barely Everything Blog.
