When it comes to finding new music, we are always looking for songs that show an artist’s true identity and aura. We search for artists that are creating their own genuine sound, and we yearn to feel that connection a really good song can present to you. This week, I was blessed to come across emerging artist Also Joe. Although I’m fairly new to his sound, he debuts on our pages with his offering “Lightspeed”, and it is an exceptional record.
“Lightspeed” is a complete song, that will have you engaged on the first guitar riff before guiding you through a dark yet sparkly sounding song. It is raw and captivating. In addition, Also Joe’s warm vocal tone and relatable lyrics will have you yearning for more. Although we usually cover more alt-pop and hip-hop records, this song was one I had to cover. There is a surf-rock/glam rock feel that takes me back to the music I used to listen to living on the coast of South Carolina. As for the meaning behind the song, this is what Also Joe had to say: "‘Lightspeed’ is a moody and anxious dark pop song depicting a scorned lover’s romanticized path to self destruction. Blending elements of new wave, post-punk, and indie rock, this is an enthralling track that transcends genre.”
Overall, Also Joe has caught our attention due to how relatable, intricately arranged, and powerfully performed the record is. For me, it usually takes more than one listen to love a song, but I knew on the first listen that this was it. Also Joe is an artist that you need to keep an eye out for because he is creating something special, so stream the song below and vibe out!
